The first Father Daedalion was hand-chosen by Sister Pious IX to lead the newly-formed family, the most devout of her adopted children and the most dedicated to the service of the common people. Father Daedalion is vested with the responsibility of running Corbia's churches and seeing to the maintenance of the temples and the well-being of the faithful. He is served in this capacity by six cardinals, one representing each of the gods, with Father Daedalion representing the Queen Mother herself. Father Daedalion is never seen in public without the mask of his station, representing that he is considered not an individual but rather an extension of the church. Every ten years, the good father chooses the worthiest of his priests to take on the mantle and succeed him, while the previous Father Daedalion returns to the anonymity of the priesthood.
The current Father Daedalion has taken a hard line against heresy and sin, leading to an increase in the torture and execution of suspected witches and other criminals and striking fear into the hearts of the populace. The Silent Guard, the church's private army, have grown more visible and numerous in the streets, and many whisper that the good Father is using the power of the church to further solidify his position of power amidst the five clashing families, though none would say so within earshot of a member of the clergy for fear of being next upon the pyre.
